The EU and China have a long standing commitment to tackle common challenges which endanger innovation and creativity. The commitment was deepened with the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between the EU and China in June 2015.  IP Key provides support in implementation of this MOU, notably by bringing different EU and Chinese agencies together to engage in comprehensive exchanges, and in doing so by providing better contacts and awareness towards each others IP institutional, legislative and enforcement systems.

A key activity to support this objective is the Chinese inter-ministerial visit to Europe.  The second inter-ministerial visit organised by IP Key, will take place between 7 and 16 November. Chinese and EU delegates will engage in open dialogue to provide overviews of each other’s IP architecture and functions.  The visit will include London (UK), Brussels (Belgium) and Alicante (Spain) and will include Chinese officials from 15 different agencies meeting with the European Commission, European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and European industry. One highlight of this year’s visit is that the Chinese delegation will participate to the 19th EU-China IP Working Group which will be held in Brussels for the first time.

Another key activity organised by IP Key includes the EU-China IP forum - Preparing for Opportunities, Responding to Challenges which will be held in London on the 8th November.  This second EU-China annual forum will be hosted by the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London and supported by Renmin University, China. This year the forum tackles issues including unfair competition and trade secrets; incentives for IP and innovation; specialised IP courts and IP in a digital environment. Academics, practitioners and judges will be discussing their thoughts on how to respond to the challenges and on how to create opportunities between the EU and China. The forum is open to academics, practitioners and business people working in IP. To find out more about the speakers and register your interest, please follow the link on the IP Key website.
