  • Audience at the EU-China IP Forum

The initiative, requested and supported by DG TRADE and the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, builds on a similar event held in 2015 in Suzhou, China, hosted at that time by Renmin University of China. Moreover it contributes to the priorities set during the last EU-China IP Dialogue meeting and the related MoU signed between EC Commissioner for Trade, Ms Cecilia Malmström and the Minister for Commerce Mr Gao Hucheng on the occasion of the last EU China Summit held in June last year.

The Forum attracted 150 delegates from academia, practitioners and business people working in IP, and supported the aim to enhance mutual understanding between academia and key policy influencers through discussions, in an open safe environment.

Key European panellist included Lord Justice Kitchin, His Honour Judge Hacon (Intellectual Property and Enterprise Court, London), Alexander von Mühlendahl (Bardehle Pagenberg, Munich), Anne Fairpo (Temple Tax Chambers, London), Emmanuel Gougé (Pinsent Masons, Paris), John Hull (Visiting Professorial Fellow, Queen Mary University of London) and Pierre Véron (Véron & Associés, Paris), to cite the most relevant.

Chinese speakers who are experts in their fields included Liu Chuntian and Guo He (Renmin University of China), Li Yang (Sun Yat-Sen University), Jiang Wanlai (Ningbo University), Xiang Bo (Nankai University), Feng Xiaoqing and Wang Qian (China University of Political Science and Law).

Please refer to the right-hand side for the full agenda and presentations.

Taking advantage of the presence of key Chinese academics representing the top Chinese universities teaching IP, IP Key also organised a workshop on the afternoon of the 7th to follow up on discussions during the Academia workshop in June 2016.  The workshop built further on building a EU-China network of academics and opportunities for joint research and studies on IP and exchanges of both professors and students.    For more information and documents related to the EU-China IP Research and Networking programme,- click here.
